Get Excited About Jesus!

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

This week we have discussed how to deal with difficult times.  There is no better way to shift your frustration and change your situation than to concentrate  on God the Father and Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Personally, I have been dealing with some things that could have me down or depressed. I have been forced to go through a tough situation but….The Holy Spirit reminded me of this one thing.  “Get Excited About Jesus!”  That is what I heard.  I thought about it. Get Excited About Jesus!

Get excited about Jesus because although I am dealing right now, I know whom I trust in  and I know I serve a God that cannot fail. Get excited about His saving grace.  I could have been killed years ago when I was carjacked at gunpoint but He spared my life through the Blood of His Protection. Get excited about Jesus because He is still alive and interceding for the saints! Get excited about Jesus because He loves me! He loved me at my worse.  He loved me at my best.  He loved me when I did not love myself! Get excited about Jesus! Get excited about Jesus!

Turn your situation into an opportunity to bless the Name of Jesus!  I promise you cannot continue to be down or even worried when you get excited about Jesus!  He has done so much already and He is still performing miracles today. He is Worthy To be Praised!

Handling Difficult Times

Philippians  4

Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.

Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

There is so much unrest in the world today. In our own country , protest are happening all across the United States of America.  Regardless where you stand or the position you take, we as Christians are not removed from the problems of the world. In fact, some Christians are the cause for some of the problems today.  However, the text today gives us insight on how to handle and approach life in difficult times.  The bible says, In Everything”  not some things  but in everything that we do , everything that we face; we should pray!  We are to approach God for the answers. Yes, we should be praying and we should be seeking the wisdom of God in every situation.  Do we always do that?

Regardless of how you answered that question, today is an opportunity.  We can invite God into our lives and our personal affairs or we can continue to do things on our own.  I have learned it is much better  to include  God in your decisions.  I have had to learn to operate in patience and stay with God instead of leaning to my own understanding.  Trust me,  you will only be able to go so far  until you have to repent and get it right.  It is better to start with God in the beginning. He is more than able to guide us through difficult times.

The Tongue

The Untamable Tongue

James

My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment. For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body. Indeed,[a] we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things.

See how great a forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. 11 Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? 12 Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh.[b]

Our words are powerful!  Let’s take these thoughts  into our homes, churches, and communities and glorify God with our words and conversation.  Have a great weekend!

What You Know

James 4

17 Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin

This week we have been discussing what we should or should not be saying as Christians  and using the scriptures as our guide.  The truth be told, I  believe all of us have said things that we wish we did not say or done things that we wish we had not.  I find it interesting that God is dealing with our mouth and the words  and conversations that we have on a daily basis?  Why are our words important to God?   Think about It!

Today’s thought is simple to understand  but not always easy to follow if we are lead by our own flesh (motives, likes, dislikes, prejudices etc.)  The main thing that we should remember is if it has been brought to our attention and we continue to do it anyway, it is sin.   We know what is right.  We know when our conversations are not right.  I believe our Loving God is only presenting us all with an opportunity to fine tune our conversations.  To not speak against one another and be judgmental and to use our voice more for the kingdom . He loves us enough to say, You can do better.  This week let’s really focus on our words!

Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it , to him it is sin.”

What You Say!

James 4

Do Not Judge a Brother

11 Do not speak evil of one another, brethren. He who speaks evil of a brother and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. 12 There is one Lawgiver,[d] who is able to save and to destroy. Who[e] are you to judge another?[f]

Do a lot of your conversations start and end with you talking about someone?  Are you passing judgments on the behavior of other people?  Are you a judgmental Christian or  are you sending everybody to hell?  Well the bible says for us to not speak evil of one another.  SO here are some examples of evil speaking that you can judge and see if you need to take them out of your mouth.  This exercise  is for you personally  not anyone else. “What You Say!”

1.        I can’t stand Joyce.  She makes me sick.

2.       I don’t know how she/he got  that promotion.

3.       Did you hear Miss So and So daughter is pregnant.  She just like her momma.

4.       That boy will never be worth anything.  He is so dumb and stupid.

5.        Why is she dressed like that at work, look like she trying to audition for Love and Hip Hop Birmingham.

If these conversations  remind you of yourself then recognize it , acknowledge it to God and change (repent).  Your mouth and the words that come from it were meant to create and give life not destroy other people in the process.   Only God is our judge!  “What You Say!”

Positive Influence

By now, all of our kids are back in school.  This year, let’s all be positive influences in the lives of our family, kids, and neighbors.   We live in a negative society.  They consistently boast about negative statistics- How many kids drop out?   How many are doing drugs and so on.  When we are  born, we are equipped with everything we need to succeed.  From that moment of birth, satan strategically  begins to tell you that you are not equipped to win in life. satan plants lies of deception, low self esteem, and  insecurity from birth and most of the time he uses the people closest to you.  I had so many negative images of myself as a child  because  my father spoke   negative and destructive  things over my life.  My Mother was the voice of praise, love and encouragement.

So many parents and relatives are voices of discouragement to their own family and some never realize that their words bring life or death to their children.  So today, decide not be a negative person.  Decide to be a voice of optimism for your family.  Be a positive influence in their life because satan will use you before they get in the world to kill, steal, and destroy if you allow him to do so.  Don’t be a fool! Be that voice of positive influence!

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit

I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;

Grace To Live

2 Corinthians 9:8

And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.

I was really saddened by the apparent suicide death of  actor and comedian Robin Williams.  Some of his movies, I just really loved especially Mrs. Doubtfire and Jumangi.    I believe he was a great comedian and actor.  It does bring me to this point, “ Success does not necessarily bring you happiness or keeps you happy.”  I know that I dream about the millions of dollars and the houses and the expensive getaway vacations and I believe Robin Williams experienced that.  I dream about having $300,000  cars and yachts and I believe Robin Williams could afford that but it has been stated that he was dealing with depression.

Life can be hard.  Life can be challenging and life can seem unbearable but there is a grace to living.   There is hope for Christians and there is a grace that God gives for us to live.  In difficult situations, we have to claim what God has given us.  Our God says, ask for it.  We have to ask for grace and claim grace.  A definition of grace is  God doing and performing  in me  what I cannot do by myself.

When life gets hard ask for grace.  When bills get too much -ask for grace.  When sin seems unbreakable in your life- ask for grace.   When depression attacks - ask for grace!  It is available to all of God’s children and it is available for you and me.  I thank you Lord for Grace!

Be Blessed
