Loving Yourself

Eph. 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. 28 So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. 30 For we are members of His body,[d] of His flesh and of His bones. 31 “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”[e] 32 This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend.  Last week, Brother Averhart really dealt with the men loving their wives.  It was challenging at moments because  we all can improve our love walk.  I believe no one graduates from love because love, real love, is one of the greatest expressions of God. God is love.  However , one thing came to mind this morning, You can’t love anybody until you love yourself.  I believe this  is where we miss it a lot.
If that statement is true, maybe that’s why men hit women.  If that statement is true maybe that’s why men cheat.  If that statement is true maybe that’s why some men are abusive physically and verbally.  If that statement is true  maybe that’s why we lie to our spouses.  If we truly love and share love like the scripture instructs us, there would be little reason for divorce.  Even when we are mad and we have been mistreated, my love should forgive and not hold grudges.
Love, real love is no joke and it takes a relationship with Christ to walk this out.  If you are always retaliating and getting revenge, your love is not representative of what the scripture is talking about.  This type of love, the God kind of love has to be nurtured and developed in our Christian walk.  If we don’t take the time to acknowledge and ask the question, “How do I love?” we neglect ourselves from loving our spouses and people out of the overflow of God’s love but loving out of our own necessity.  If we love out of our own need, we will be cussing and clowning by sun rise.  Just a thought for your evaluation.
